Heidelberg unveils new Diana X 80 Folding Carton gluing machine

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be expanding its portfolio of folding carton gluing machines at drupa 2012 with the new Diana X 80 and thereby reinforcing its range of solutions for the growing packaging market. With a working width of 80 cm (31.50 in) and the new Diana Inspection Control and Diana Braille modules, this machine is the perfect solution for processing demanding pharmaceutical packaging and requires very little space due to its compact design. The Stack Turner, Diana Feeder, and Diana Packer add-ons make the Diana X 80 ideal for all standard packaging, whether straightline, lockbottom or four-corner cartons in long runs.

The proven Diana X 115 has a working width of 115 cm (45.28 in) which covers the entire production spectrum of folding carton gluing. This extends from straightline, double-wall, and four/six-corner cartons to the lockbottom and specialty cartons that today's discerning packaging specialists require. Thanks to their modular design, both machines can be customized for the relevant production requirements and are extremely versatile. This delivers the flexibility in production that is essential on the folding carton market, in both long and short runs, and ensures packaging print shops and postpress specialists are able to combine productivity with high quality. The machines have short makeready times, are highly productive, and very cost-effective. Fully automatic positioning systems are also available (optional).

"The new Diana X 80 further reinforces our commitment to the growing packaging market," says Stephan Plenz, member of the Management Board responsible for Heidelberg Equipment. "This machine - just like the Diana X 115 and our Dymatrix and Varimatrix die cutters - fits seamlessly into the end-to-end packaging workflow. Heidelberg is the only manufacturer to offer a range of machines covering the entire value-added chain for packaging printing," adds Plenz.

The Diana X 80 will be available from drupa 2012, during which it will be on show at the Region West branch of Heidelberg in Langenfeld. Visitors to drupa will be able to see a Diana X 115 in the Packaging Print area in Hall 1 as a response to the HEI End market trend.

New - Diana Braille module, Diana Inspection Control, and Stack Turner
The modular design is based on end-to-end servo drive technology. Separate drives enable further components or add-ons to be integrated as required. These include the new Diana Braille module and the Diana Inspection Control module, which enables the entire area of the blank to be checked and thus helps maximize production quality. The new ejector module then removes faulty cartons in the direction of travel when the machine is operating at full speed and ensures continuous error-free production. The carton size is unimportant. Everything from the smallest carton for use in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries to large specialty cartons is ejected with absolute precision.

The new Stack Turner for Diana folding carton gluing machines is geared to high production speeds and boosts productivity through precise and continuous pile feeding and turning. It processes a wide range of materials and its straightforward operation results in short makeready times.

Broad spectrum of folding cartons
Customers today are looking for ever higher quality standards in folding cartons, including increasingly complex designs and high-end surface finishes. The Diana folding carton gluing machines can handle everything from standard tasks to the most demanding of jobs. They are able to process board for folding cartons with grammages ranging from 200 to 900 gsm and N, F, E, and B flute corrugated board.

The machine length of the Diana X 80 and Diana X 115 ensures fast processing and excellent productivity. The absolute fold lengths of 3.50 m (137.80 in) in the prefolder and 3.70 m (145.67 in) in the folding unit enable high production speeds of up to 650 m (2,132 ft) per minute and ensure outstanding quality. Speeds of up to 200,000 cartons per hour are possible. The Diana Feeder, Diana Packer, and new Stack Turner deliver additional high-productivity support. Belt folding options are also supported at various points. Even at high speeds, the glue is applied with absolute reliability and only where it is needed. Both machines thereby combine high productivity with reliably high quality throughout the run.

The open design of the Diana X folding carton gluing machines - the frame walls have a low entry height of just 46 cm (18.11 in) - provides easy access to all machine components. This user-friendly design cuts makeready times.
